A Study on the Characteristic of Atypical Workers¡¯ Labor Market Transition and Factors Affecting the Choice of Occupational Status
Bae Hwa-Sook

Abstract
The purposes of this study are to analyze the actual conditions and characteristics of the labor market transition for 20 years since 1998 and to identify the factors that influence the labor market transition of workers. For this, the job history data(klips21w) of the KLIPS, which merged the 1¡21st personal data, was analyzed. The main findings are as follows: First, in the 21-year survey, the rate of maintaining one job was only 25.11%, and workers were found to have an average of 3.39 jobs during their working life. Second, 32.42% of workers experienced temporary work, and 16.52% experienced daily work jobs at least once in their jobs. 46.17% of respondents experienced atypical work at least once. The probability of converting atypical work to typical work is 45.24%, and the probability of retaining atypical work even if the job changes is 54.76%. Finally, compared with regular workers, the factors that increase the probability of choosing temporary or daily workers were age, spouse of the householder, non-regular work experience in the first job or in the second job, unemployment experience, and the number of employees. Overall, atypical work is on the rise and labor transitions are frequent. However, the relatively weak employment types are sticking, and the proportion of job transfers that lead to better employment status is low.
